The opposite is true too. I had my head buried in my pillow to block out the bedroom light for 30 minutes, not realizing my wife had turned off the light 20 seconds after she turned it on. I was laying there squinting and unable to sleep until I moved the pillow and noticed that it had been pitch black the whole time.

IIRC blind people can still maintain circardian rhythm by light induced melatonin production and can tell night from day. And sight people are sensitive to indicator LEDs at night even when sleeping.
