Education has less become about educating the kids and more about teaching the tests because that is the only metric that matters. This is not a DeVos thing, this has been something that has been going on for almost 20 years now and we have to admit it has failed miserably. We need to pay our teachers more to educate our children in a proper fashion, not this standardized crap that has gotten us no where fast Edit: Wow thanks for the gold and silver!

Hmmmm, maybe if we keep paying teachers shit and blowing all our money on school administrators and standardized testing things will improve

We’re pumping billions into our public education system. Yet poor schools still need teachers to buy their kids supplies out of their own meager wages. Where the **FUCK** is all this money going?

School board committee members in my area can make $100,000/ year yet teachers make half that often buying their own supplies for under equipped classrooms. Money is sent down the pipe ,so to speak, but it’s not always hitting its intended target. Schools are “companies” now not really a learning centre.

I didn’t care about school until I was 27. Now that I’m back, it’s jarring how few people put forward any effort besides the bare minimum. I have no fucking clue how we fix that. My theory for the cause is the combination of poor teacher pay, the constant cultural reinforcement that not trying is cool, and our extreme consumerism that provides a million things more fun than math homework. The first is fixable, the latter two aren’t going away any time soon.
