Buko pie is believed to be invented by Soledad Pahud, she discovered apple pie while working as a maid in the United States, she returned to the Philippines where the lack of apples led to her coconut recipe.

TIL that all pies are just versions of apple pie, regardless of the presence of apples.


Not really true. buko pie uses cornstarch, condensed milk, and coconut juice. Even the crust is different. No similarity to Apple pie. There is a Philippines version of Apple pie that uses chayote, crackers, cinnamon and brown sugar.


Australia has it’s own version of apple pie called meat pie, except it’s savoury and totally different and has nothing to do with apple pie.


I have my own version of Apple pie, it’s a stew made with beef instead of apples, and instead of a crust I put it in bowls.
