Everything in our modern lives is blood soaked. Everything.

This can be seen in the chalk making industry as well. Children become cheap forms of physical heavy labor on the sites (not officially hired) and will do whatever is asked of them. It’s one of the reason why chalk is so cheap when exported.

> More than 60% of cobalt originates in DRC, one of the poorest and most unstable countries in the world. There’s your problem. Much of Africa is absolutely paralyzed by corruption. It’s been that way for my entire life and looks like it will remain that way indefinitely. In fact, it’s going to get even worse because their natural resources are being exploited by foreign entities now.

on one side: a few humanitarian lawyers representing some of the poorest people in existance. on the other side: every legal department of the largest, richest, most litigous, IT companies in the world. justice would be great, but I dont see this going very far. edit: by justice I mean moral justice. I realize its going to be nigh impossible to connect the companies legally to the mining, unless there is some treaties or provisions about child labour or conflict minerals.

So it’s a large corporations fault for needing the Cobalt not the Congolese people for employing their children to do labor?
