Cheaters and traitors the lot of ’em.
Something really needs to happen to punish the GOP.
We desperately need Election Day to be a recognized, national holiday with mandatory time away work to vote approved to every citizen in the country. Course if we had that the GOP would be in serious trouble, which is why they historically have fought any attempts to establish such a holiday. The GOP cannot stay in power playing fair and they know it.
If I were rich, I would love to go to a low rate voter state, and hire a phalanx of lawyers who specialize in election law *and* lottery law for that state.
Then I would fund a **$1M lottery prize to be randomly drawn from the rolls of voters who participated in the last election.**
Put out some ads prior to the voter registration cutoff and then again election day. Then hype the hell out of the winner.
Americans have mixed feelings and uneven commitment to voting. But they fucking LOVE a lottery, especially where it costs nothing to win. It would be covered by every news outlet.
Of course, it would probably get a lot of legal pushback, too, but it would drive up voter participation by a LOT.
This should disqualify him from even being able to run again. Trump and his minions have put a spotlight on the need to address situations like this in the constitution. The founding fathers didn’t realize that there needed to be laws in place to protect from the corruption of all three government branches at the same time. It’s clear we can no longer assume *anyone* has the best interests of the country in mind when elected or appointed to positions of power.
This is how Republicans win. While various Progressives wage war against their own over the most perfect candidate Republicans are fixing to ensure votes won’t get cast regardless. Voter suppression it the whole game. Not how we talk to rust belt factory workers.
“According to federal court records, 300,000 registered voters, 9 percent of the electorate, lacked strict forms of voter ID in Wisconsin. A new study by Priorities USA, shared exclusively with The Nation, shows that strict voter-ID laws, in Wisconsin and other states, led to a significant reduction in voter turnout in 2016, with a disproportionate impact on African-American and Democratic-leaning voters. Wisconsin’s voter-ID law reduced turnout by 200,000 votes, according to the new analysis. Donald Trump won the state by only 22,748 votes.”
” More than 80 voting machines in Detroit malfunctioned on Election Day, officials say, resulting in ballot discrepancies in 59% of precincts that raise questions about the reliability of future election results in a city dominated by Democratic and minority voters.”
