TIL that redwoods, despite their incredible height, have shallow root systems. Their stability is due to the roots extending over 100 feet from the base and that they intertwine with roots of other redwoods.

You wanna know fear? I grew up in the Santa Cruz Mountains where redwoods are aplenty. During storms, the redwoods *sway* due to their root structure and height. As a kid, I was always terrified one of the giant trees surrounding my house would fall on us during an El Niño season.


Strength in numbers. Nature gets it


What I want to know is how at risk they are from all these fires.
