TIL in 882 Louis III of France mounted his horse in pursuit of a girl who was running to seek refuge in her father’s house. He then rode through a low door, hit his head on the lintel and fractured his skull. He died childless. He is one of two French kings to die from hitting a door lintel.

Reminds a little of another ignoble death, that of Scotland’s James I. He crawled through a sewer tunnel of a castle after hearing assassins coming for him, but found his exit blocked. He’d forgotten that a few days before he had them block the exit of the tunnel because he kept getting his tennis balls lost in there.

If I had a nickel for every French king who died from hitting their head on a lintel, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.
