I took an old watch in to a jeweler because it was not working. I spoke to the young woman at the counter to say I wanted to have it repaired, and she told me that it just needed a battery replaced, and they could do that. She seems genuinely puzzled when I told her that it did not have a battery; it was a wind-up watch.

My Citizen Eco-Drive watch has a tiny rechargeable battery, which is kept charged by absorbing light energy through the watch face. Indoor ambient light is enough to keep it charged indefinitely.

Kids of today have never encountered a self-winding watch?
