>”The incentive structure that has been created is one in which so far we’ve seen zero accountability for lying and pushing these narratives,” Masterson, the former DHS official, said. “We don’t see anyone really, truly being held accountable.” Thanks to John Roberts and the SuperPACs, GOP ratfucking is big business now.

The short answer to all of this is it must be treated seriously, or the future will be grim and we will let it happen. These last years have been absolutely INSANE. The fact that we are not treating any of it as such is our downfall as a people, as a nation, as a world power, as everything. THS is how societies fail, and it all starts with a lack of simple accountability and grounding to common reality. I’m in my 40s, and this is the first time I actually fear for this nation. We have a lot of people who know it’s wrong. We just don’t have people acting on it.

This what happens when the older generation realizes they are losing the power to govern how they want regardless of if the younger generations agree with them or not

> “Now we have a playbook out there,” said Masterson, who is currently a policy fellow with the Stanford Internet Observatory. “Where if you don’t like the results — by the way in an election that wasn’t particularly close … you just claim you didn’t lose **and in fact the process itself was rigged against you.**” Here’s the thing: If you’re a Republican, and there are more Democratic voters than Republican voters, and you let everyone vote, then you’ll lose. So the process is “rigged against you.” Somehow, Republicans don’t see it as a moral wrong to try to re-rig the process in their favor by any means fair or foul, which speaks to their moral bankruptcy.

> Masterson says, the strategy chosen by the state’s Republican state Senate leaders is working as intended to undermine confidence in the outcome of last year’s vote. > > The process is a simple exercise in how disinformation spreads and takes hold in 2021. And experts fear it presents a blueprint for other states and lawmakers to follow, one that is already showing signs of being emulated around the country. > > “Now we have a playbook out there,” said Masterson, who is currently a policy fellow with the Stanford Internet Observatory. “Where if you don’t like the results — by the way in an election that wasn’t particularly close … you just claim you didn’t lose and in fact the process itself was rigged against you.” Between this bullshit “audit,” and the fucked up voting restriction laws GQP legislatures are trying to adopt in various states, like here in Texas, the GQP is weaponizing the election system in way that benefits them, even in situations where their candidates lost the popular vote – a lot of this legislation contains provisions making it easier for courts and elected politicians to overturn election results so they can give the win to their guy.
