Making a kid eat an entire pizza (or any kind of food punishment) is wrong. Making him eat an entire pizza while the entire team watches makes it worse. Making him eat an entire pizza while the entire team watches and eight coaches/staff yell at him makes it even worse. (More so if they’re all adult staff.) Making him eat an entire pizza while the entire team watches and eight coaches/staff yell at him, and then making him exercise afterwards makes it worse again. But the forcing him to do something against his religion, in front of his teammates, while being berated by his coaches, is simply unforgivable. I’m not always a fan of litigation-happy parents, but I’m glad it happened in this situation. How the heck did no one person have the balls to speak up and say, “Uh, hey, this is wrong.” Edit: While this article states that it was well and widely known the kid kept Kosher, other articles say he was eventually “allowed to pick off the pepperoni”. However, if you’re someone who follows dietary rules due to religious or ethical reasons, even a small amount of the substance can be an issue. Other articles also state he was told he had to eat the entire pizza or the rest of the team would have to run extra drills.
