“When you talk to God, you call it prayer. When God talks back, it’s called schizophrenia.”

“The president of the United States has claimed, on more than one occasion, to be in dialogue with God. If he said that he was talking to God through his hairdryer, this would precipitate a national emergency. I fail to see how the addition of a hairdryer makes the claim more ridiculous or offensive.” ― Sam Harris, Letter to a Christian Nation

When you talk to God, you are religious, When you claim God talks to you. you are lunatic/crazy.

“In a cult, the guy at the top knows it’s a scam. In a religion, that guy is dead.”

This is why religion can be really bad for mental health. Imagine being schizophrenic but never seeking professional help because your religion teaches you that it’s perfectly normal to hear god speak to you, even angels, demons, and Satan. As a kid growing up in religion, all the way up through high school really, I remember getting frustrated because I would pray and never hear anything back, I wanted so bad to hear that response from god or someone. Sometimes even to the point of imagining to hear things that weren’t there. But then I would see testimonials from people in church who would tell their stories of when god spoke to them and stuff like that. I can’t imagine how much that would have fucked me up if I actually had Schizophrenia or something.

This may be low effort. But, it’s not wrong. And, I like the addition of the note.
