Some people may not realize that 6 weeks pregnant is 6 weeks after the start of your last period. A person 6 weeks pregnant is only two weeks overdue for a period. Most women won’t even take a pregnancy test until 7 days after a missed period so that means women would only have one week to organize an abortion under this law.

Our country is so weird. We care extensively about unborn children, yet treat alive children as pests their mom and dad ‘shouldn’t have had unless they could afford it!’ Seriously, ask the people who are ‘pro-life’ what they think of things like paternity and maternity leave, universal preschool, or child tax credits. The consensus will be ‘pay for it with your own god damn money!’

Which is exactly what the Texas legislature wanted. The entire point of this law was not for it to stand but for it to be challenged, the challenge make it to the Supreme Court, and then the conservatives hope that the Supreme Court overturns Roe v Wade.

I wish more people understood “six weeks pregnant” really means “my period was late by two weeks.” That’s not enough time for many women to discover they are pregnant or make a decision about whether or not to have any child that may be there. Especially when you think about appointment time and scheduling delays or travel time to said appointments.

Just a question, are vasectomies outlawed? If not why not? Same thing.
