Could be way more aggressive. Ban petrol cars in 10 years, tax jet fuel to kingdom come and use that to subsidize improvements to the rail network, public transport, clean energy.


The European Union has announced a raft of climate change legislation aimed at pushing it towards its goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050. A dozen draft proposals, which still need to be approved by the bloc’s 27 member states and the EU parliament, were announced on Wednesday. They include plans to tax jet fuel and effectively ban the sale of petrol and diesel powered cars within 20 years.


One thing we learned from the pandemic is that banning petro cars is not enough even when most folks were working from home during lockdown. Cut down on red meat, excess food produce, ban coal firing plants would have a more meaningful impact to the environment.


There is absolutely no good reason to worry about co2 and the airline industry for the foreseeable future. Instead of worrying about the hardest and smallest segment, they should be focused on the easiest and largest segment. Like most of the inept masses, their primary goal is meaningless virtue signaling and not achieving practical results.
