College dorms must have been annoyingly noisy at night during the typewriter era from all the students working on assignments

You believe that every student had access to a typewriter… Most were writing papers by hand.

Back in the day handwriting was used. Very quiet.

Yeah but less noisy Bluetooth speakers blasting at an ungodly volume

When I was in college in the mid 80’s, you ended up with more noise coming from the card he’s in the lounge or someone getting drunk and blasting music (ROCK ME AMADEUS, COME ON ROCK ME AMADEUS, AMADEUS, AMADEUS, AMADEUS) thank anything.

Typewriters were expensive and I don’t remember many people having them in their dorm rooms in the late 70’s. There was a place on campus you could go to type papers, or professors accepted them in legible longhand. By the time I went back to college in the early 80’s, there was a computer center in the library where you made reservations to use the computers (which we were completely untrained in – those poor help desk people!) and then paid to have them slooooowly printed out by a dot matrix printer. THOSE were loud.
