I’m often more impressed by the cleverness/skillfulness in the “revealed” trick than I am impressed by the trick itself. I guess I like getting under the hood to know how things work.

Very young children cannot be impressed by magician’s tricks. For kids without object permanence, everyone is a magician. Even after that, kids too young to have seen how the world is supposed to work would just think that the magician is just showing off another new thing they haven’t seen before. Like Calvin having Hobbes try to find more money in his ear.
