This is an incredibly misleading headline. Navient isn’t “forgiving” anything. They were sued by a bunch of state Attorneys General for illegal and predatory practices *in their private loan* business. As part of the settlement, they’re being forced to cancel those loans outright. This has nothing to do with federal loans, and nothing is being done out of the goodness of anyone’s heart. Navient acted illegally, and they’re being punished for it. Full stop.

Abolish student loan interest retroactively and permanently.

So that’s why I was changed from Navient to Aidvantage just before this happened…

Paid off my remaining Navient balance of $4,300 last August.. just to be done with it after 13 years. I’m glad it’s been canceled for so many others.

As a student loan borrower that’s been paying for the last 7 years and has a balance of $29k left, here’s what I think is fair: 1. Forgive $10k for everyone with a Federal loan 2. Set interest rates to 0% to 0.5% 3. Rebate all interest already paid to current balances
