One of the most moving speeches I’ve ever heard. These fearmongers predicted same sex marriage meant the collapse of civilization. But just wait they’ll start passing laws to claw back that right as well. With this Supreme Court anything is possible.

& this is why i’ve been so enraged and depressed lately…of all the problems in our country, in the world right now, THIS is what politicians are focusing their energy on, bills to address problems that don’t exist as an excuse to feel as if they’ve ‘one uped’ the other side in the culture war, and the absurdity of “I don’t know why he thought that”, complete lack of self reflection, empathy, connection with other humans…and these people are *half the government*, but representing an eroding minority of equally compassion-less people.

He makes a really important point. “Nice” people like that will “love the sinner” for all their worth, and then stab them in the back at the first opportunity. I have a neighbor who wants to be everybody’s favorite guy. Acts like he’s a pillar of the community. I happen to know from working the polls that he’s a member of a racist fringe political party. You’d never know from talking to him. You’d know he’s a bit of an ass, but you wouldn’t know he was a bigot. Imagine growing up in a whole town full of people like that.

Unfortunately… in the United States, certain people have taken their biases, hatred, and bigotry, wrapped them in a tidy Jesus blanked, and headed into politics.

“Because you’re gonna lose. You may win this today, but you’re going to lose.” And thats really how it has gone throughout history on all this bigotry. They will eventually lose but they are going to drag this out for as long as they can. Sometimes I wish we could fastforward past all this, because we know they are going to eventually lose. Why not skip to the end without years and decades of just being awful to others who are different than you are?? I know the answer, but it just sucks that it has to be this way.
