I probably got mild sunburn less than a dozen times from childhood and early adulthood. Never remember any of them being bad. Got melanoma that came back at stage IV 9 months after being removed and getting the all clear. Hate sunscreen? Wear UPF gear. Works like a charm.

How did you notice it

Even black folks need to wear sunscreen. Years of being told we didn’t need it have been harmful, but there are some brands that have been created for those of us with higher levels of melanin.

I decided not to wear sunscreen when I went to a water slide park the whole day back when I was 10 or so. I had 1st to 2nd degree burns all over my chest, shoulders and back. I had to sleep sitting up for 3 nights. Twas not fun.
