I once had someone over the phone (it was her job to talk on phones and occasionally recite alphanumeric codes) give me a code. She wouldn’t say “b as in boy” she’d just say “boy, excite, one,” for BE1, etc. At one point something wasn’t working and when we went over it, it turns out for one character, she told me nine, meaning “n as in nine” not the numeral 9.

In Spain we use city, Region and country names. A as in Andalucía, B as in Berlin, S as in Sevilla…
